Patriotism of the People

Life stops and bursts into flames, carnage, injury, never the same.

Despair turns to anger, anger to passion, determination.

Guns are grabbed, spirits roused, America defended by ordinary people.

12-07-1941-- The day Japan attacked Pearl Harbor, killing 2,403 people, and damaging/destroying 19 ships. After the events of Pearl Harbor, America joined WWII, which would help the Allies win the war. But a little-known, remarkable act of patriotism is the fact that ordinary civilians began patrolling the Western Coast of the United States, their own guns in hand, willing to lay down their lives for America. Their bravery is truly inspiring.

(For those of you wondering, this is written in the Sijo style, though not exactly.)
