The old soldier in our front yard is stuck in the past. He reminisces about the days of old. He quizzes the boys on tactics and the great generals. He is loyal only to Abraham Lincoln; he would live and die for him. He throws those hickory nuts at us, acting as if he was throwing shells at the enemy. He has separated himself from the “whipper snappers,” that have no respect. Well, if anyone isn’t a soldier or his wife, they have no respect, in his opinion. That old soldier that sits in our front yard, with his back that isn’t as good as it used to be, he’s not so bad. At least he’s loyal, and his shells have never hurt us.
